Flew on the giant bird that used to grace JFK (and other European destinations) in the 90's and into mid 2000's. PIA used to be the airline of choice to return home from College (or vacation) in the US till the downward spiral hit it. The plane used to be full of students (on flights from/to JFK) around June/Sep/Dec/Jan timeframes.
Was told this (747-300 - the one we bought from Cathay) one will be retired post-Hajj op by Dec 2014. Was surprised to see it was very well maintained.
Made a short slideshow of the trip: PIA 747-300 KHI-LHE July 27, 2014. Hope the link works (posted Vimeo link for those in PK - since YouTube does not work there).

Beautiful slideshow! Have flown PIA's 747 number of times to/from Heathrow and on domestic sectors in Pakistan. Last occasion was March 2013 on LHE-KHI sector. Will certainly miss the elegance of the big birds.

Great slides, wish they could restore and keep this in the PAF Museum or PIA Museum.
my father Capt Jafri flew this for several years before he retired, I do remember siting on jump seat back in good old days, it is a magnificiant plane
