Three PIA ATR Aircraft Out of Action

Post by Abbas Ali »

According to Geo Tez news channel, three out of six ATR 42-500 aircraft in PIA fleet are grounded.

Two aircraft are undergoing routine maintenance checks and third aircraft is grounded due to some technical fault in it, according to statement of a PIA spokesperson quoted by the news channel.

Yes that is quite right. Its effects will be reflected in the coming days when PK649/650 ISB-LHE-ISB and PK681/682 ISB-MUX-ISB will be operated by the A310s.

Though it is off topic but i would like to know one thing.
This coming monday will the third consecutive when a 777 will operate PK-3502 from ISB-PEW. Do they even know what they are doing?
People cry when they see a 777 operating a flight to middle east from Pakistan, what to talk about this. On Mondays as per the schedule first PK 741 is operated to Jeddah and returns to PEW and then again goes to JED and finally returns to ISB. They have swapped the flights and just to operate the the PEW-JED sector first, they first kill a cycle by making a 777 operate ISB-PEW and in the end they again kill another of its cycle by operating PEW-ISB sector so that the aircraft reaches the ISB base. They need to get this right. ISB-PEW by a 777, like seriously??

EK routinely operates B777 on DXB-MCT, no big deal

Do they frequently operate Boeing 777 between Islamabad and Peshawar to position the aircraft for fights to Jeddah?

In that case I think they can operate the aircraft on Islamabad->Jeddah->Peshawar & Peshawar->Jeddah->Islamabad routes.

Seems like as this is going to be the third consecutive Monday. They are forced to position the aircraft by operating this sector because of the cancellation of PK 755/756 of Sundays which was KHI-PEW-RUH-PEW. The aircraft automatically ended up in PEW and operated the following sectors. However ever since this flight has been cancelled, they have planned exactly what you have suggested but 2 days before the flight they swap the sectors which forces them to operate these short sectors. Maybe they try to avoid night Takeoffs and landngs at PEW but then A310 routinely operates these kind of night flights.

But then how many 777s have EK got compared to PK?

It is a big deal as mentioned, it is a waste of flight cycles.

Emirates have a large 777 fleet so they can rotate aircraft between short haul and long haul so that the cycles don't quickly add up.

PK can't do that with their small fleet.

I second that. They have 100 77Ws while PIA only has 9 777s. And even if Emirates does that, it makes them right?
