The first bad step taken. They are going for 5 738s and 5 320s.

Ok. So 11 if utilized to maximum utility will help a great deal in turning PIA around.

Whilst it is a step in the right direction, new aircraft will not cure PIA's problems which have a root cause in over staffing.faiq wrote:Ok. So 11 if utilized to maximum utility will help a great deal in turning PIA around.
If you recall when the initial 777 order was made, the same was said at the time - that the new fuel efficient aircraft replacing the 747 would make PIA profitable.
We all know how that worked out.

Well the 777s did save PIA when half of their fleet was banned by EU. Even now with half of the fleet grounded, had it not been for these 9 777s I can't imagine what state PIA would've been in right now.
They've made the right move opting for 320s because they were already getting 3 but personally I would've loved seeing brand new 738s in PIA colors.

I think it is pointless to bring up the over staffing matter .This idea is usually used when the airline wants to take the focus off the root causes ,I wouldn't worry about over staffing because almost 40 percent of those employees are paid salaries as low as 15k or less so they are peanuts for the airline and not a huge liability .They just need to fire the employees with forge documents ,not the other poor employees who can't actually run their houses with PIA salary only .Think about it .imiakhtar wrote:Whilst it is a step in the right direction, new aircraft will not cure PIA's problems which have a root cause in over staffing.faiq wrote:Ok. It would be a bad choice to go for the 3 CFM powered A320s....PIA would have engineering problems as it has with A310s (6 powered by CF6 & 6 powered by PW4156).

I think the three GECAS A320s will not come, only the eight from the Qatari company.
but how cramped will these planes be, 180 seat all economy layout.
Plus at least 8 A310s for the next couple of years will do the job.

Every employee's role needs to be looked at, whether they're managers or aircraft cleaners.Uzair Ansari wrote:I think it is pointless to bring up the over staffing matter .This idea is usually used when the airline wants to take the focus off the root causes ,I wouldn't worry about over staffing because almost 40 percent of those employees are paid salaries as low as 15k or less so they are peanuts for the airline and not a huge liability .They just need to fire the employees with forge documents ,not the other poor employees who can't actually run their houses with PIA salary only .Think about it .imiakhtar wrote:Whilst it is a step in the right direction, new aircraft will not cure PIA's problems which have a root cause in over staffing.faiq wrote:Ok. It's fair to compare the case of PIA to that of the old Air New Zealand, state owned, bloated and inefficient. Actually, their short, medium and long haul fleet mix would fit PIA very well. As you can see here however, the biggest savings were made on overhead costs of which staffing is the largest.
